Over a month has passed since my last update for my blog series, "Federal Data on Coronavirus (COVID-19)" and unfortunately we are still in this historic life altering moment in time.

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 I Part 5 I Part 6In the almost 5 weeks since my last report, there have been an additional $2.21 Billion federal contracts awarded under the COVID National Interest Action Code P20C. This is about $800,000 less than the new awards reported from my previous post and this covers a longer time span, so maybe things are slowing down just a bit. This brings the overall total in P20C contracts awarded to $18.86 Billion.
I find it so interesting that in this month's data the top agency is Department of Agriculture. What COVID related contracts is Agriculture procuring? I clicked on the blue bar to refine my data.
During this time period, Department of Agriculture has spent $706 Million. The top prime contractor that's winning with Agriculture is a company called Caribbean Produce Exchange, based out of Puerto Rico. They supply fresh fruits and vegetable produce. Looking at CPE's profile in Fedmine they have hardly won much federal work in the past. This year's $99M from Department of Agriculture has been a major shift in their federal business. Interesting that even our produce goods are now being procured using the COVID National Interest Code - this never crossed my mind before 😬.
1598 Companies have been awarded over the last 5 weeks and of those awards, 26.4% have gone to small businesses. My colleague, Lindsay Carry just wrote a blog regarding COVID's affect on Small Businesses. The top small business winning in this period is another produce company! Tulsa Fruit Company has been awarded over $35M from the Agriculture Marketing Service. Similar to CPE, Tulsa Fruit Company did not have much in the way of Federal awards prior to COVID.
The 2nd small business who's won the most in this period is a consulting company called T-Rex Solutions, LLC. T-Rex has been awarded a $38M contract for 2020 Census Integrator work.
Following T-Rex is SDVOSB firm Four Points Technology, LLC. They might have come up in my previous blogs as they are constantly winning new federal awards.
I've talked about the data from the past 5 weeks but haven't really looked at the full picture yet. As I previously noted, the overall P20C awards are now at close to $19B. In the Top 10 Prime Contractors, one that stands out is General Motors, LLC. I remember reading about General Motors pivoting their work to build ventilators back in April. I've linked their $476M award from HHS here.

A new feature that we recently added to the Fedmine platform allows users to search the subject line only for keywords in new solicitations when they come out. This feature is especially helpful to our clients tracking COVID related procurements. I ran the RFP search that pulls from Beta.SAM.gov and was able to isolate the COVID related solicitations from the last 30 days.
With the spike in new cases in over half of the US States, the need for PPE is again at an all time high. Federal procurement of these goods and services won't be slowing down any time soon and in fact we might see an even higher output for July than we did in April. We can compare those numbers as well as review the DoD numbers in the next round.
